On Friday, August 27, 1999, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Wilshire Area Patrol Officers responded to a "shots fired" call at the 960 block S. Harvard Boulevard. Upon arrival officers heard a single gunshot emanate from Apartment #3 and then silence. The officers forced entry into the apartment where they found three male and two female Asians who had died from gunshot wounds.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Moo Bon Paik, 58 years old, lived at the location and that his estranged wife had gone to the location with her relatives to speak to him.
