Two Men Gunned Down in Broad Daylight NR12283kr

Los Angeles:   One man is in custody and two are dead, after a shooting around 12 p.m. this afternoon.

On Wednesday, June 20, 2012, Wilshire Area officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon radio call at Pico Boulevard and 6th Avenue.  When they arrived the officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds lying on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of 6th Avenue.  

Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel responded and transported both victims, 19-year-old Miguel Martinez and 18-year-old Daniel Regalado, to a local hospital.  They died a short time later.

Responding officers quickly established a perimeter around the crime scene and area where the suspect was seen running.  The suspect, 18-year-old Alberto Mejia, was found a hiding inside a residence within the perimeter.  He was taken into custody without incident.

The shooting appears to be gang related, but the investigation is ongoing.
