DETAILS:

For more than 25 years, Ms. Ruby has been an active member of 77th Street Community-Police Advisory Board (C-PAB), advocating on behalf of the community she loves and resides in. She is an institution in the division and a mentor and role model to members to the local community. Always fair in her judgements, she is just as likely to defend her neighborhood as she is to speak out on behalf of “her officers.” Ms. Ruby is one of today’s unsung heroes.

Her partnership with the LAPD began on May 13, 1968, when Policeman Oscar Joel Bryant was shot and killed by a robbery suspect. A command post was set up at the corner of 74th Street and Halldale where Ms. Ruby resided. She and her husband provided sandwiches, water, coffee, cocoa, and donuts to the entire staff that worked that evening. From that day forward, her relationship with the Los Angeles Police Department grew, as she proudly proclaimed the phrase, “this is Ms. Ruby’s Hood!”

One of Ms. Ruby’s most cherished commitments to date is helping coordinate the Annual Officer Appreciation Day in the courtyard at 77th Street Station. Ms. Ruby coordinates a delectable full course meal along with entertainment to show the community’s appreciation of the work of the officers and civilians.

Ms. Ruby’s commitment to her community and her city, has been honored and supported by a contingent of leaders, including former President and Mrs. Bill Clinton, former Vice President and Mrs. Al Gore, President Nelson Mandela, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, former Senator Teresa Hughes, Supervisor Yvonne Burke and Mayor Tom Bradley.

Thank you, Ms. Ruby, for your long-standing partnership with 77th Street Community Police Station. We are a better Department, community, and city because of your dedication and years of service.
