"17 Year-Old Dies in Accident"

Mission Hills – On October 1, 2000, at approximately 3:00 a.m., an 18-year-old of Camp Pendleton Marine Base, was driving his Honda Accord west on Brand Boulevard, east of Sepulveda Boulevard when he lost control on a curve. The vehicle collided with a tree and a fire hydrant. One of three passengers, 17-year-old Ivette Ismerio of Arleta, died at the scene. A 14-year-old passenger was transported to a pediatric intensive care unit at a local hospital and an 18-year-old passenger was transported to a local hospital for observation purposes only. The 18-year-old driver was taken to Northridge Hospital and has not been arrested, pending further investigation.

The investigation will be conducted by Valley Traffic Detectives.
