Los Angeles – The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will be honoring its most outstanding employees at the 21st Annual Recognition Day Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, November 8, 2000, at 10:00 a.m., in the gymnasium at the Police Academy located at 1880 North Academy Drive.
Chief Bernard C. Parks will present medals and awards to 140 LAPD employees, both active and retired. These awards recognize outstanding acts of heroism, bravery and excellent service.
Fourteen Police Medals (second only to the Medal of Valor) will be awarded this year along with 28 Police Stars, eight Lifesaving Medals, three Police Meritorious Achievement Medals, 20 Police Meritorious Service Medals, 28 Police Meritorious Unit Citations, and 28 Community Policing Medals. Seventeen LAPD sworn employees will also receive the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association National Award. City leaders and community members will join the Department command staff, family, friends and co-workers during the event to honor these outstanding individuals.
