"Drive-By Shooting Claims 47 Year Old Victim"

Westlake – Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of Aquiles Ortega Vasquez, a forty-seven year old male Hispanic.

On Tuesday, November 28, 2000 at approximately 6:30 a.m., Rampart patrol officers responded to a radio call "Ambulance Shooting" in front of 1515 West 11th Place. Upon their arrival, the officers found the victim down on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. The Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Ambulance responded to the location and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The investigation revealed witnesses heard a gunshot and observed a white van immediately drive away from the location.

The motive for this shooting is unknown.
