Los Angeles: A man is shot and killed while riding in a vehicle on Western Avenue Monday afternoon.
On June 16, 2008, at around 1:10 p.m., 20-year-old Matthew Tyrone Denney was riding in the right front passenger seat of a vehicle southbound on Western Avenue approaching 60th Street. A newer model Cadillac pulled up to the victim’s vehicle and for an unknown reason, an occupant of that vehicle fired multiple shots. One round hit Denney in the torso. The driver of Denney’s vehicle lost control and collided with another vehicle driving northbound on Western Avenue.
Los Angeles City Fire, Police, and rescue ambulance personnel responded and provided emergency treatment for the victim before transporting him to a local hospital. At the hospital, Denney failed to respond to the emergency treatment and died.
The suspect’s vehicle was last seen fleeing westbound on 60th Street from Western Avenue. There were three male Black suspects inside the Cadillac. The motive of this shooting appears to be gang-related.
