Taskforce Enhances Public Safety by Reducing Traffic Congestion and Curtailing Street Cruisers
Los Angeles: This evening, the Los Angeles Police Department hosted a briefing open to all law enforcement agencies, media representatives and community leaders to launch the summer-long Sunset Boulevard Multi-Agency Cruiser Taskforce. The Taskforce, a partnership with the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, aims to enhance public safety through better control of traffic congestion and violations associated with cruising activity along the Sunset and Hollywood Boulevard corridors.
Over 50 officers will be dedicated to this year’s Taskforce operation to achieve high visibility, enforcement and education in an effort to restore order during the usual nightclub atmosphere of the busy summer season. Some of the typical violations officers look for are exemplified in last year’s Taskforce operation, which netted 2,173 personal service citations, 464 vehicle impounds and over 350 arrests for felonies, misdemeanors and drivers under the influence of alcohol.
