Why:
On Saturday, June 12, 2010, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) will partner with Motorola Inc. to kick off the summer by hosting the 2010 LAPD & LAFD Safe Summer Tip-off Youth Basketball Event.

The event, held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena will treat hundreds of kids and their families from around the City to a day of fun, food and entertainment.  The inaugural event will feature a friendly, yet competitive game of basketball between LAPD Officers and LAFD Firefighters and tipping-off the game will be Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck and Los Angeles Fire Chief Millage Peaks. The event will also highlight and promote the importance of staying physically active, camaraderie through healthy competition and bring awareness on enjoying summer safely.

The day’s festivities emceed by actor, comedian Arsenio Hall, will also include performances by young talent from The Rage Performing Arts Complex and the Los Angeles Clippers Spirit and Fan Patrol.  Also showcased will be displays, demonstrations and educational opportunities from both the Police and Fire Departments, a complimentary BBQ lunch and the chance to win autographed sports memorabilia.
