March 7, 2011

Los Angeles: LAPD Hollenbeck Homicide Detectives are investigating the domestic violence-related death of a Los Angeles woman.

On Sunday, March 6, 2011, at around 12:05 a.m.,LAPD Hollenbeck patrol officers responded to a domestic dispute call in the 2800 block of Fairmount Street. When the officers arrived, they saw a group of men holding down an older man who appeared to be the suspect. One of the men in the group was suffering from a cut.  Officers also saw a woman lying on the floor unresponsive suffering from a stab wound.  The officers intervened and took the suspect into custody.  LAFD rescue personnel responded and transported both victims to a local hospital where the woman was pronounced dead and the man was treated and released.  The woman was later identified as 48-year-old Narda Huerta.

The detective’s investigation revealed that the suspect was the boyfriend of Huerta. He came to the victim’s home to visit when a dispute ensued between them. During the argument the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed Huerta.  A relative of Huerta’s intervened and was also stabbed by the suspect. The relative managed to wrestle the knife away from the suspect, along with other members in the household, and subdue him until the police arrived.  The suspect was arrested and booked for murder.  A weapon was recovered from the scene and the investigation is on-going.
