Victim found dead in street following deadly shooting

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) North Hollywood Area Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects who shot and killed a male bicyclist in Valley Glen.

On Monday, June 6, 2011, at about 1:40 a.m., Police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 6800 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard.  According to detectives, a 19-year-old, Hispanic male was riding his bicycle when unknown suspects drove up and fired multiple rounds at him. The male bicyclist was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground.  The Los Angeles City Fire Department Personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff Department deputy arrived on the scene just after the shooting and discovered a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed.  The deputy and LAPD officers attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle but lost the suspect’s vehicle after the car entered Van Nuys area. The units requested an air unit to assist in locating the suspect vehicle.  The responding Air Unit later located the suspect’s vehicle and directed officers to the area where the suspects were last seen by community members.  A search of the area was conducted but the suspects were not located.

There is no information about the suspects at this time and Detectives have not determined what prompted the shooting.
