Los Angeles – The Northeast Community Police Station is one of the oldest police stations of the Los Angeles Police Department with a long and distinguished history and tradition. Previously known as the “Highland Park Police Station” officers assigned to Northeast have been protecting and serving the residents of the City of Los Angeles with honor, dedication, and professionalism since 1925.
The Northeast Community Police Station was the 11th police station built in the history of the LAPD. The number “11” then became the radio call sign for all officers assigned to work Northeast who serve the following communities: East Hollywood, Los Feliz, Franklin Hills, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Elysian Valley, Atwater Village, Glassell Park, Cypress Park, Mount Washington, Eagle Rock, and Highland Park
The calendar day “11-11-11” only occurs once every one hundred years and on this day all Northeast Community Police Station alumni will be invited back to a BBQ in celebration of their service to the residents of the City of Los Angeles.
Today is Veteran’s Day and in honor of the thousands of LAPD officers who have proudly served in the United States military, a flag that flew over the U.S. S. Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor will be flown over the Northeast Community Police Station on this day.
The Northeast Community Police Station worked with many Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in three separate major gang takedowns of the Drew Street, Avenues, and Toonerville street gangs resulting in over 200 arrests for crimes such as Murder, Attempt Murder, Narcotics Trafficking, Robbery, Extortion, Money Laundering, RICO Violations, and Witness Intimidation.
As a result of the hard work by the officers assigned to Northeast Community Police Station the homicide rate has decreased 77% over the past three years and gang crime rate has decreased over 40%.
Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we celebrate “11-11-11” Recognition Day and commend the men and women of the Northeast Community Police Station for their many outstanding contributions in “Protecting and Serving” the residents of the City of Los Angeles.
