Why:
The Los Angeles Police Department is hosting its latest Cadet Program Graduation ceremony for this year, bringing the total to over 6,000 youth that have graduated since the renaissance of the program in 2007.  This Cadet class ranks as one of the largest in the history of this program which places strong emphasis on discipline, leadership, academic excellence and life-skills.  Community youth who participate range in age from 14 – 20 years, are in good scholastic standing and represent regions spanning the entire City and beyond.  During the 18-week Academy term, Cadets receive instruction in numerous fields of study that include:

Leadership Training
Law Enforcement Principles
Conflict Resolution
Physical Fitness
Life – Skills Education
Cultural Diversity
Financial Literacy
Gang and Narcotics Prevention

Cadets also receive lessons in the acclaimed Josephson Institute’s “Six Pillars” character development series as well as public speaking lessons that educate students to become more confident and effective communicators.  This graduation will also highlight nearly one hundred adults who will be awarded certificates for completing our inaugural “Cadet Parent Academy” during which they were taught the same courses as their youth and at the same institute.  This companion learning approach enhances the parent/child relationship at home and also deepens the partnership between the LAPD and the members of our communities.
