May 17, 2012

Los Angeles:  Detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify a robber who stole two Rolex watches from a jewelry shop inside of a mall in Century City.

On May 10, 2012, around 4:50 p.m., LAPD West Los Angeles officers received a call of a robbery at a mall in the 10200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard.  When the officers arrived, they immediately checked for the safety of the employees and searched the area for possible suspects. The officers were unable to locate any suspect in the vicinity.  A security guard suffering from minor injuries, was treated at the scene by LAFD Rescue personnel.

After a thorough investigation detectives believe a man walked into the jewelry store and asked one of the employees to look at some watches.  When the employee presented the watches, the suspect grabbed one watch from the tray and forced the second watch from the employee’s hand.  He then ran towards the exit and was tackled by a security guard.  The suspect managed to break free and ran southbound through the mall and out toward Constellation Boulevard.

The suspect is described as a 23 to 26-year-old male African American.   He stands between 5’4 and 5’6 inches tall and weighs between 130 and 145 pounds.  The two watches are valued at $64,900.00.
