Los Angeles: Hollenbeck Homicide Detectives are investigating the stabbing death in Boyle Heights.
On July 28, 2012, around 11:45 p.m., LAPD Hollenbeck patrol officers responded to a radio call of a stabbing in the 2900 block of The Mall within an apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers found an unconscious male Hispanic on the ground with multiple stab wounds to his body. LAFD Rescue personnel responded and treated the victim at the scene. The victim failed to respond and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was identified as 40-year-old Bernardo Lopez.
Detectives’ preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, who formerly dated the suspect’s current girlfriend, arrived unannounced and an argument ensued. The argument escalated into a physical altercation and Lopez being stabbed. The suspect, 48-year-old Daniel Arce was detained at the scene and was questioned by homicide detectives. A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from bushes near the body. Arce was later booked at LAPD Metro Detention Center for murder and held on $1 million bail.
