Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department Rampart Division Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects who killed 40-year-old Atilio Benavides- Amaya. Councilmember Cedillo has approved a $50,000 reward for the information leading to the conviction of the suspects.
On November 6, 2013, around 8:15 p.m., Rampart Patrol officers responded to a radio call of a shooting at 14th Street and Union Avenue. The victim, later identified as Atilio Benavides-Amaya was walking in the area when the suspects approached him on foot. According to detectives the victim was shot several times at close range. The suspects then fled eastbound on 14th Street possibly in a dark SUV.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and paramedics pronounced the victim dead at scene.
Benavides- Amaya is survived by his mother who was living with him at the time of his death and a son who lives in El Salvador. Benavides- Amaya was working at a 99 Cent Store where he was helping his mother with his income and also sending money to his child in El Salvador. The motive of the homicide is unknown.
Both suspects are described as male Blacks in their twenties.
