Los Angeles: Chief Beck Unveils “Obey the Rules of the Road” Public Service Announcements (PSA’s) to bring much needed attention to pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle safety.
The LAPD’s Central Traffic Division (CTD) has embarked on an on-going public awareness campaign to promote traffic safety and the “Rules of the Road.” The three PSA’s feature celebrities that have volunteered their time to participate with the LAPD in this important project.
The PSA “Hands Free to Live” features “NYPD Blue” and “Caprica” star Esai Morales, “Don’t Lose” features “Mike and Molly” star Reno Wilson and “Stay”, features “In the Heat of the Night” and “Murder in the First” star Anne-Marie Johnson.
The “Hands Free to Live” PSA focuses on distracted driving. The “Don’t Lose” PSA promotes bicycle safety and “Stay” concentrates on hit and run accidents. Ms. Anne-Marie Johnson, daughter of retired LAPD Sergeant Joseph Johnson, co-created, co-produced and co-directed the PSA’s with CTD Officer David Marroquin. A team of talented LAPD Officers also assisted with the project under the supervision and guidance of Captain Ann Young.
PSA’s have been made available to local television stations, social media platforms, and other media outlets. DVD copies of the PSA’s have also been distributed and made available with Spanish and Korean subtitles.
