Stolen Heisman Trophy Recovered NR15006dm

January 6, 2015

Los Angeles: After missing for over 20 years, the stolen Heisman Trophy honoring O.J. Simpson has been found. On Tuesday, December 16, 2014, detectives assigned to LAPD’s Art Theft Detail recovered the trophy. It was originally stolen during a burglary that occurred on the campus of the University of Southern California on July 28, 1994. A custodian discovered the burglary, which involved dismantling Plexiglas display cases. The trophy, as well as a jersey that was worn by Simpson, were on display in the lobby of Heritage Hall on the U.S.C. campus.

The trophy recovered is the duplicate given to the university, not the one awarded to O.J. Simpson himself. The trophy is in the custody of the Los Angeles Police Department and the investigation is on-going.

Anyone with information about the crime, or the whereabouts of the jersey, are urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department’s Art Theft Detail at 213-486-6940, or email at artcop@lapd.lacity.org.
