Los Angeles: The Los Angeles
Police Department Robbery Homicide Division (RHD), Special Assault
Section detectives are continuing to ask for the public’s help to
identity a suspect linked to 35 sexual assaults that occurred
primarily in South Los Angles and bordering areas under the
jurisdiction of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs since February
1996. The last occurrence was in 2012.
Detectives from RHD have followed up on hundreds of leads, and are
once again asking for the public’s help.
The suspect typically approaches women who are alone on their way
to school or work or who are waiting at a bus stop, between the
hours of 5:15 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. The suspect talks with the victim,
then threatens to kill them with a handgun or knife. The suspect
forces the victim from the sidewalk to a secondary location, where
he sexually assaults her.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 40 to 55-years-old,
with brown eyes and brown hair. He stands between 5’2″ and 5’6″ and
weighs between 130 and 170 pounds. He has been described as having
a light complexion, a possible teardrop tattoo(s) or scar(s) below
one of his eyes and a mustache. He may also have attempted to
remove his teardrop tattoo. The suspect has been seen wearing a
gray or dark hooded sweatshirt, a bandana, black baseball cap or
dark-colored beanie.
The City of Los Angeles in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of
Investigation is offering a reward for up to $100,000, for
information leading to the identity, arrest and prosecution of the
person responsible for the series of sexual assaults.
