Fatal Hit and Run with Pedestrian NR16047DM

Boyle Heights: The Los Angeles Police Department Central Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the identification of the suspect involved in a hit and run collision which left a 24-year-old man dead.

On February 15, 2016, around 12:20 a.m, a male Hispanic was walking across Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, just east of Chicago Avenue, when he was struck by an unknown type of vehicle. The victim was dragged beneath the vehicle for over 100 feet. The victim’s body was dislodged after the driver of the vehicle drove into a driveway behind a business on Chicago Avenue. The driver then backed out from the driveway and fled north on Chicago Avenue. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and render aid to the victim, or identify themselves, as required by law.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the victim to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, the victim died from his injuries.

The suspect’s vehicle has possible damage to the left front and undercarriage. There is no driver description.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification to next-of-kin.
