WHAT: LAPD Hollywood Area, LADOT Bicycle Safety & Transit Education Program in partnership with Safe Moves will conduct demonstrations on pedestrian, bicycle and skateboard safety. The “Walk, Ride & Roll” event will feature:

Skateboard & Bicycle Skills Course Distracted Driver demonstration featuring the Safe Moves pedal car Watermelon Drop to demonstrate the importance of wearing a helmet Demonstrations on pedestrian, bicyclist and skateboarder collisions Helmet giveaways

WHY: Graphic Demonstration Regarding Head Injuries and Bicycle Safety 89% of Children in Bike Accidents Do Not Wear Helmets, Upping Risk of Traumatic Brain Injuries. More children ages 5 to 14 are seen in emergency rooms for injuries related to biking than any other sport. Helmets can reduce the risk of severe brain injuries by 85%.
