Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department West Bureau Homicide detectives are investigating a fatal beating that occurred outside of Hollywood Nightclub.
On Sunday, October 30, 2016, around 2:35 a.m., Hollywood Area officers were in the area of Hollywood Boulevard and Cahuenga Boulevard when citizens advised the officers of a man down near a vehicle parked in front of a nightclub in the 1600 block of Cahuenga Boulevard.
The officers found a victim that had suffered blunt force trauma. The victim was unconscious. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses advised that after the Nightclub closed, people were outside when two women got into a fight. Thereafter, two male suspects chased the victim and punched and kicked him, causing his death. One suspect fled the location on a party bus. A second suspect fled on foot.
Hollywood Area officers stopped the bus and arrested one suspect.
The victim was identified as 29-year-old Devon Jelkes of Los Angeles. The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Dietrich Canterberry of Anaheim. Canterberry was arrested for Murder, 187 PC, with a bail of two million dollars. The case will be presented to the District Attorney for filing consideration on Tuesday, November 1, 2016.
The second suspect was described as a male Black, He stands 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs approximately 185 pounds. He is approximately 35 years of age. He was last seen wearing dark pants and a white t-shirt.
