On Saturday, October 29, 2016, LAPD Chief of Police Charlie Beck was riding his motorcycle off road in the Tehachapi Mountains, north of Los Angeles, with a group friends. Chief Beck fell on a rocky trail and fractured his pelvis. He was able to ride his bike back to his truck and after driving home received emergency medical care at a local hospital. “I want to thank everyone for their well-wishes as I recuperate from my recent motorcycle mishap,” said Chief Beck. “As always, I am in constant contact with my LAPD command staff and will be working diligently while I recuperate to continue leading the men and women of the LAPD.” Beck will receive follow up care, which may include surgery on Monday. Doctors say he is expected to have a full, speedy recovery and return to the office within the next week.
Chief Beck has been a competitive off-road motorcycle rider for the past 40 years and is a current and past National Police & Fire Champion.
