Canoga Park: A single vehicle fatal traffic collision leaves a 21-year-old male dead.
On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, around 2:10 a.m., Valley Traffic officers responded to a single vehicle traffic collision in the 21000 block of Sherman Way. A 2001 Honda Accord, traveling eastbound at a very high rate of speed, lost control and collided with a fire hydrant and a business at the location. The fire hydrant detached and struck a second business located nearby. Both businesses were closed and unoccupied. The force of the collision caused the Honda to be split in half.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at scene. The driver of the Honda was identified as 21-year-old Steven Rodriguez, a resident of Chatsworth.
At this point in the investigation, it is believed that excessive speed and driver impairment contributed to the collision.
