WHY: Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department square off against deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at the annual Fight for Life. This one-of-a-kind boxing match benefits lifesaving cancer research and treatment programs at City of Hope. This year’s match-up will take place on Friday, November 17th, 7 p.m., at the Pacific Palms Resort Hotel in City of Industry.
The annual event began in 1994, shortly after Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies encountered a young boy with cancer while working on patrol in East Los Angeles. The deputies befriended the young boy and provided help in order to improve the quality of life for him and his family.
LAPD officers and LA County Sheriff’s deputies have been longtime supporters of the City of Hope. During the 21-year history, the event has raised over one million dollars for the City of Hope.
