Officer-Involved Shooting in Southwest Division NRF077-17ma

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Southwest Division.

On December 4, 2017 around 4:20 p.m., a senior lead officer assigned to Southwest Patrol Division was in a business on Adams Boulevard near La Salle Avenue. The officer heard gunshots and went to the intersection of Adams Boulevard and La Salle Avenue to investigate. At that time, the officer saw the suspect, a male Black, shooting at a victim and an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect entered a gray, 4-door sedan which fled southbound on La Salle Avenue.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital. The victim was treated for several gunshot wounds and is in stable condition.

At this time, the suspect, who did not appear to have been injured as a result of the OIS, is not in custody and detectives are working to identify and locate the suspect.

LAPD’s specialized Force Investigation Division (FID) responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence. A representative from the Office of the Inspector General responded and monitored the investigation.

The complete investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police and the Board of Police Commissioners and the Office of the Inspector General to determine the thoroughness and accuracy of the investigation and whether the use of deadly force complied with LAPD’s policies and procedures.
