Los Angeles: The Los Angeles
Police Department’s Newton Area Robbery Detectives are seeking the
public’s help on identifying an armed robbery suspect whose images
were caught on surveillance video.
On January 18, 2018 at about 10:00 p.m., an armed robbery occurred
at a donut shop near the 100 block of West Florence Avenue in
Newton Division.
The suspect entered the location and jumped over the counter. The
suspect grabbed witness-1 by the collar of his shirt while pointing
a gun at him, forced him to the register and demanded that he open
the register.
Witness-1 was unable to open the register. The suspect then became
frustrated, chambered a round and shoved witness-1 into a nearby
wall. The suspect fled on foot without any property.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, standing approximately
5 feet 07 inches tall, weighing approximately 140 lbs., 30 years of
age. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, grey
sweatpants, black ski mask and carrying a black semi-automatic
handgun. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a dark, 4 door,
vehicle, unknown make or model.
Below are preventative insights one should consider while walking
on the streets:
Be aware of your surroundings, especially in isolated areas.
Familiarize yourself with street names or landmarks in case an
emergency occurs. Be cognizant of strangers standing around or
behind you.
void travelling alone on the street. Suspects generally
target lone victims.
Avoid possessing large amount of money on your person or in
your place of business.
Limit the use of electronics that would distract your
attention from potential dangers. If using a cellular phone, look
up occasionally to reacquaint your surroundings.
Exercise discretion wearing high-valued jewelry or using
expensive cellular phones. Consider using hands-free earphones
allowing you to keep your cellular phone concealed while in use.
If a crime occurs to you or others, be a good witness.
Observe as much detail as possible of the suspect without
intervening. Your life is more valuable than property.
Report the crime as soon as possible by calling 911. Delayed
reporting can significantly reduce the possibility of
apprehending the suspect.
