Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision NR18214ne

Los Angeles: Detectives from the
Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division are asking
for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead
to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in a hit
and run collision that killed a 67-year-old man.

On August 10, 2018, around 5:00 a.m., the pedestrian was crossing
southbound on Union Street at 3rd Street, inside of a crosswalk. He
was struck by a vehicle travelling westbound on 3rd Street. That
vehicle was described as a gray 2012 to 2015 possible Chevy Blazer
SUV with extensive traffic collision damage to the front of the
vehicle.

The unidentified driver of the SUV failed to stop, identify
himself/herself or render aid to the victim as required by law.
Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision,
they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so,
notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify
themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles
Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust
Fund. A reward of up to $25,000 is available to community members
who provide information leading to the offender’s identification,
apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil
compromise.
