Bicyclist Dies After Getting Struck By A Hit and Run Driver NR18256ne

North Hollywood: The Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in a fatal hit and run, killing a 45-year-old male bicyclist.

On October 7, 2018, around 8:35 p.m., a 45-year-old male bicyclist was riding his bicycle in the designated bicycle lane eastbound Strathern Street at Bellingham Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound Strathern Street.

A witness described a dark colored, possibly gray SUV stopped momentarily as the bicyclist was laying in the street. After a few seconds that vehicle continued traveling eastbound on Strathern Street. The hit and run driver did not stop or render aid to the bicyclist as required by law.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The bicyclists identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $25,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
