Washington Dr. Erica Thomas-Minor, Principal, Manual Arts High School Faculty and staff, Manual Arts High School Representative, LA Promise Fund Principal, Hillcrest Elementary School Parents, students, and other community representatives/supporters of Manual Arts High School

WHY:
The Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives (FDFI), in partnership with NOBLE, with the support of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and in collaboration with the LA Promise Fund and Manual Arts High School, will present 900 copies of the special Bicentennial Edition of the “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass.” The books will be presented to students of Manual Arts High School and the Hillcrest Elementary School.

This is one of the FDFI’s projects that was undertaken as part of the US Congressional decreed Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Celebration.

In keeping with Frederick Douglass’ philosophy that “knowledge is the pathway to freedom,” FDFI is working with schools all over the country to inspire and empower one million young people to do and be more than they ever dreamed possible. This project was embraced by NOBLE, and adopted by LAPD Operations-South Bureau as an extension of their youth-outreach and education program.
