Los Angeles: The Los Angeles
Police Department’s Central Traffic Division are asking for the
public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the
arrest of 22-year-old Sahand Haji-Safari, wanted for Felony
Evading.
On January 29, 2019, around 12:20 p.m., a Central Bike Unit
attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a black 2005 Mercedes-Benz,
with a California License plate of 8DOV066. The driver was seen
texting and driving with expired tabs near the area of 7th Street
and Hill Street.
Los Angeles Police Department bicycles are equipped with emergency
forward-facing red lights and a siren that is at least 115 decibels
loud. The bike officer activated his emergency lights and sirens to
get the driver’s attention, and directed the driver to pull to the
curb when they made eye contact.
The driver decided not to the yield to the officer’s directions and
began to accelerate his vehicle to elude the officer. The driver
drove against a one-way street and used the “Bike Lanes” to avoid
opposing traffic. He also was involved in two separate misdemeanor
hit and run traffic accidents while attempting to elude the bike
officer.
The driver quickly pulled into a parking structure near the 600
block of South Broadway. The parking structure had surveillance
cameras and it captured the driver stopping his vehicle at the
ticket machine. The driver exited his vehicle, began to walk
towards the ticket machine, which would activate the ticket
machine’s arm to raise, and let the driver into the parking
structure.
The driver forgot to place the vehicle in park and began to walk
away. The driver jumped back into the car and placed it in park
before colliding with the machine’s arm. The driver exited the
vehicle again to retrieve some items he dropped, however, he saw
the bike officer entering the parking structure. The driver
re-entered his vehicle and began to initiate a 3-point turn to exit
the parking structure. The bike officer directed the driver to
stop, however, the driver told the officer that he could not and
said he was, “sorry.” The driver drove out of the parking structure
and was able to escape arrest.
The driver is identified as 22-year old Sahand Haji-Safari (AKA
Sahand Hajisafari) from San Diego and is wanted by the Los Angeles
Police Department for 2800.2 of the California Vehicle Code, Felony
Evading. Sahand is currently on Parole for Burglary, and has a
Felony Bench Warrant, from San Diego County, for failing to appear
in court for a 2800.2 CVC Felony Evading.
