Los Angeles: The Los Angeles
Police Department’s Central Traffic Detectives are requesting the
public’s assistance in locating the driver of a vehicle involved in
a hit and run.

On March 26, 2019, around 6:10 a.m., a fatal hit and run traffic
collision occurred on Bonnie Brae Street just north of 6th Street
in Rampart Area. Leonides Rivas, 30 years old, had just parked his
personal vehicle on Bonnie Brae Street and was in the process of
crossing the street eastbound. Rivas was midway when he stopped for
a vehicle approaching northbound. At that point, he was struck from
behind by a truck traveling southbound on Bonnie Brae Street. The
driver of the truck fled southbound from the scene and failed to
identify himself or render aid as required by law.

Rivas suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries and was
transported to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center by paramedics
from the Los Angeles City Fire Department. Despite the life-saving
efforts, Rivas succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead
shortly after his arrival.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a 2000-2005, white pick-up
truck, with a dark bed-liner. The driver is described as a male,
Hispanic, 30-35 years old, with dark hair (combed back).

The collision was captured on video by surveillance system from an
adjacent building.
