Bio

Commander Bryan D. Lium was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He graduated from Central Washington University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Justice and began his career with the Los Angeles Police Department in December 1995.

As a police officer, Commander Lium was assigned to Harbor, Wilshire, and Pacific Divisions. In 1998, he was selected to be part of the Community Law Enforcement and Recovery (CLEAR) task force as a gang officer, and later as a gang investigator. He was promoted to detective in 2001 and was assigned to Van Nuys Area. He was later promoted to sergeant and was assigned to Devonshire Division as a patrol supervisor. In 2003, he was selected to supervise the Los Angeles Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Task Force (LA IMPACT).

In 2006, Commander Lium had the opportunity to help start a new unit within the Counter-Terrorism and Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CTCIB). The Protective Security Task Force (PSTF) was designed to protect critical infrastructure in the Los Angeles Region. In 2011, he was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to North Hollywood Area as a Watch Commander. He was later assigned to Internal Affairs as the Officer-in-Charge of the Valley Section. In 2015, he was promoted to captain and was assigned to Devonshire Area and in March 2019, Commander Lium was assigned as the Commanding Officer, Legal Affairs Division. In April 2022, Commander Lium promoted to commander and is currently assigned as the Assistant Commanding Officer, Operations-Valley Bureau.

Commander Lium received his Master of Public Administration from California State University, Northridge. He is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Police Academy in Quantico, Virginia; the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Point Leadership Program; the University of Southern California’s Delinquency Control Institute; Texas A & M’s Enhanced Emergency Management Unified Command Course; and the Federal Bureau Investigation’s Executive Fellowship Program in Washington DC.
