Los Angeles: The Los Angeles
Police Department’s Central Traffic Division are asking for the
public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the
identification and arrest of the driver involved in a hit and run
collision that killed 24-year-old Jaime Ramirez, a resident of
Maywood.
On May 31, 2019, around 9:30 p.m., the bicyclist was traveling
southbound Lorena Street approaching 8th Street and was splitting
lanes between the vehicles. As the bicyclist approached 8th Street,
he was unable to maintain control of his bicycle, fell onto the
street, and was struck by a 40-foot box trailer’s tires.
The driver of the semi-truck failed to stop, identify themselves
and render aid. A witness followed the truck and photographed the
License Plate of the trailer, License No. 4MY4587. Detectives
attempted to locate the registered owner of the trailer, however,
they were not successful.
The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced
Ramirez dead at scene.
The semi-truck
is an unknown make and model, all white, with a sleeper cab, and
the rims are white. The 40-foot box trailer appears to be all
white. The semi-truck and trailer did not have any obvious company
logos.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles
Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust
Fund. A reward of up to $25,000 is available to community members
who provide information leading to the offender’s identification,
apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil
compromise.
