Arrest During Protest in Downtown NR20801ml

July 26, 2020

Downtown Los Angeles: A peaceful demonstration in Downtown Los Angeles was interrupted shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening when some individuals within a large crowd of protesters began to direct physical assaults on officers deployed to facilitate the demonstration, vandalize property, and walk onto a busy freeway.

In all, a total of four officers and three protesters were treated for minor injuries during the incident. Four individuals were arrested: three for battery on a police officer — and one, who was in possession of a machete, for causing a disturbance.

Chief Michel Moore commented, “The Los Angeles Police Department is committed to making certain that Angelenos can exercise their First Amendment rights peacefully, and we cannot allow violence and destruction of property to put anyone’s safety at risk — whether they be officers, demonstrators, or bystanders.”
