Multiple Suspects Arrested Following an Officer-Involved-Shooting NR20263jl

South Los Angeles: On October
14, 2020, around 9:50 p.m., a group of individuals were seated in
their vehicles in the parking lot of a gas station on the corner of
111th Street and Figueroa Street. The suspect, who was alone,
walked up and pointed a firearm at the group of individuals. A Los
Angeles Police Department Southeast patrol unit was driving
westbound on 111st Street when they observed what was taking place.
They stopped their patrol vehicle, exited, and gave the suspect
direction to put his gun down. At that time there was an
officer-involved shooting. The suspect was struck by gunfire and
pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was also recovered and
collected as evidence by detectives.

No officers were injured and none of the victims sustained
injuries.

On October 15, 2020, around 2:30 a.m., a female protester at the
scene of the officer-involved-shooting, crossed the yellow Los
Angeles Police Department crime scene tape and entered the
restricted area. Officers detained her at which time 6 additional
suspects crossed the crime scene tape and attempted to free the
female from police custody. A struggle ensued between the
individuals and the officers. Ultimately, seven people were
arrested for willfully resisting and obstructing a police
investigation (California Penal Code Section, 148 P.C.). The seven
individuals were not from the immediate area. One officer sustained
an injury to their hand which required medical treatment.
