Sylmar: On October 24th, 2020,
at 6:30 p.m., a hit and run traffic collision occurred on Cobalt
Street and Encinitas Avenue. The motorcyclist was traveling
westbound Cobalt Street when he struck a six-year-old boy who was
riding a scooter on the street.
The small boy sustained injuries as a result of the collision.
After the collision, the motorcyclist picked up his motorcycle
laying on the road and subsequently put his helmet back on and fled
the scene without rendering aid and identify self.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and
transported the boy to a local hospital in stable condition.
Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision,
they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so,
notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify
themselves.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles
Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program
Trust Fund. A reward of up to $25,000 is available to community
members who provide information leading to the offender’s
identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution
through a civil compromise.
