Law Enforcement Related Injury (LERI) NRF038-20dm

On August 23, 2020, uniformed officers responded to a radio call in the 7000 block of Hollywood Boulevard. A female Hispanic was intoxicated, violent, and refusing to leave the hotel. Officers met with the staff of the hotel and were directed to the suspect’s room. Officers met with the suspect along with three other occupants who advised the officers that their friend rented the room, but their friend was not there. Officers explained to all occupants that the hotel staff wished for them to leave. All occupants were cooperative and began to pack except for the suspect. She appeared to be heavily intoxicated, boisterous and refused to leave. As officers stood by for the other occupants to pack their belongings, the suspect approached one of the officers and assaulted him. Officers applied a firm grip on the suspect’s arms, took her to the ground and placed her in handcuffs. During the handcuffing the suspect bit two of the officers.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment due to her level of intoxication. The medical evaluation noted that the suspect had a dislocated elbow and symptoms of Rhabdomyolysis. On August 24, 2020, around 2:30 p.m., the attending physician advised that the suspect would be admitted for the injury sustained to her elbow and Rhabdomyolysis.

Force Investigation Division (FID), Criminal Apprehension Team, assumed investigative responsibility of the crime against the officer, and FID assumed administrative responsibility for the Categorical Use of Force, Law Enforcement Related Injury (LERI) investigation.
