Los Angeles: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Bureau Homicide Division have arrested a homicide suspect in connection to a fatal shooting.
On Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at 3:55 p.m., LAPD 77th patrol officers responded to a radio call of an “Ambulance Shooting” at Gage Avenue and Vermont Avenue. Upon arriving, officers observed the victim’s vehicle on the southeast corner of Vermont Avenue and Gage Avenue.
Officers located Larry Brooks, a male Black, 32 years old, seated inside the vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. Brooks was unconscious, unresponsive, and pronounced deceased at scene.
In addition, officers located an additional victim, a female Black, 21-years-old, who was seated in the victim’s vehicle when the shooting occurred.
On Tuesday, September 30, 2020, Ernest Handcox, a 37-year-old male Black, was arrested for the murder of Brooks and attempt murder of the female victim.
On Thursday, October 1, 2020, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one count of murder and one count of attempt murder against Handcox.
