Captain Aaron Ponce upon graduating from the Police Academy in March of 2005, he was assigned to 77th Area then Newton Area and was later appointed as a Detective and assigned to the Department’s Financial Crimes Division. After just over a year as a Detective, he was promoted to Sergeant and worked at Southwest Area which encompasses the area west of the 110 Freeway to Florence including the communities of USC, the Crenshaw District, Leimert Park and Baldwin Hills. He then moved to Internal Affairs where he was assigned to investigate officer misconduct. Captain Ponce then moved to the Department’s largest Division, Communications Division. This is where all 9-1-1 calls are screened, and the Department’s Police Service Representatives coordinate and communicate with citizens and officers.
Captain Ponce returned to operations at North Hollywood Area where he was an Assistant Watch Commander, later promoting to Lieutenant and assigned to Devonshire Division. In 2015, Ponce looked to take on more responsibility and transferred to Pacific Area and a short time later was promoted and took over as the Commanding Officer of Pacific Detective Division. In Early 2017, Captain Ponce was promoted to Captain and was assigned to North Hollywood Patrol Division. As the Captain of a patrol division, a Captain has oversight of all patrol functions of the Division. Later, Captain Ponce was assigned to Foothill Area where he remained until promoted to the newly formed Community Outreach and Development. In early 2021, Captain Ponce was assigned to South Traffic Division.
Captain Ponce graduated from the University of Arizona, has been married for 28 years and has four children.
