The Field Investigation Unit performs scientific field investigations of crime scenes. This includes assessment of the scene to identify, document, and collect probative evidence from the scene and to perform bullet path trajectory analysis at shooting scenes. Follow-up activity includes the itemization of evidence into its probative components (e.g., DNA, trace evidence, prints), booking evidence, producing detailed scaled crime scene diagrams, and providing expert testimony.
