SEPTEMBER 2020 APPROVED UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT ITEMS

The Uniform and Equipment Committee, and the Chief of Police, have approved the following
uniform and equipment items:

1. APPROVAL OF THE NORTH HOLLYWOOD AREA PIN
The following North Hollywood Area pin has been approved for the wear on Department
uniform for personnel assigned to this Area.

The pin is in a shape of a shield with the American flag as the background. The American
flag is gray, black and one blue line. The pin reflects the number 15 in the center to represent
the division’s numerical designation. The top of the pin has a black banner with the letters
“NHWD.” It is base metal and 0.6 of an inch tall and 0.5 of an inch wide.
The pin will replace any and all pins that have been approved for North Hollywood Area.
The pin will be worn in accordance to Department Manual and Uniform and Equipment
Manual.

2. APPROVAL OF THE WEST LOS ANGELES AREA PIN
The following West Los Angeles Area pin has been approved for the wear on Department
uniform for personnel assigned to this Area.

The pin is base metal, silver and black in color. The pin is in a shape of a shield with a
number 8 in the center to represent West Los Angeles Area’s numerical designation. The pin
is 0.6 of an inch and 0.5 of an inch wide.

The pin will replace any and all pins that have been approved for West Los Angeles.
The pin will be worn in accordance to Department Manual and Uniform and Equipment
Manual.

3. APPROVAL OF THE RAMPART GANG ENFORCEMENT DETAIL PIN
The following Rampart Gang Enforcement Detail (GED) pin has been approved for wear on
Department uniform for gang officers and investigators assigned to the Rampart Area’s
Gang Impact Team. More specifically, personnel assigned to Gang Detectives,
Gang Enforcement Detail (GED), and the Community Law Enforcement and Recovery
(CLEAR) program.

The pin is base metal, silver in color. It is .60 inches in height and .60 inches in width. It
features a “2” behind the letters “GED.” The number 2 represents the Rampart Area’s
assigned geographical number and the letter GED represent the name of the Detail.
This pin will replace any and all pins that have been approved for the
Rampart Gang Enforcement Detail.
This pin will be worn in accordance to Department Manual and Uniform and Equipment
Manual.

4. APPROVAL OF THE DEPARTMENT’S LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL,
TRANSGENDER AND QUESTIONING(LGBTQ) OUTREACH PROGRAM PIN
The following LGBTQ Outreach Program pin has been approved for wear on Department
sworn and non-sworn uniform for the month of June, Pride Month.

The pin is round in shape with an enamel design, red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple
in color. The pin has a gold outline and has “IN SUPPORT” at top in white letters, “LAPD”
in the center in white letters and “OF LGBTQ” in white letters at the bottom. The pin is
5/8 of an inch overall in size.

5. APPROVAL OF THE POLICE VIDEOGRAPHER PATCH
Office of Operations, Field Services Section, Film Unit, Tactical Video Team (TVT) is the
primary contact for providing videography documentation and evidence to include but not
limited to demonstrations, protests and marches in Los Angeles. The TVT, when authorized
by the Officer In Charge of the Film Unit at Office of Operations, may wear a utility uniform
to facilitate carrying additional equipment.
Therefore, the following “POLICE VIDEOGRAPHER” patch has been approved. The patch
will be fastened by hook and loop (Velcro) to the back of the utility uniform. The patch will
assist in identifying the officers’ mission and assignment during crowd management and
control situations. The patch is ten-inch by six-inch, black in color, with the word “POLICE”
in two-inch embroidered in white and the word “VIDEOGRAPHER” in one-inch
embroidered in white.

The specifications of the patch are in accordance with the Uniform and Equipment Manual,
Required Distinctive Law Enforcement Identification Markings.

6. APPROVAL OF THE EVIDENCE AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT DIVISION
(EPMD) LOGO
The following logo has been approved for Evidence and Property Management Division
(EPMD).

The logo depicts the “Lady Justice” which symbolizes fair and equal administration of the
law, without corruption, favor, greed, or prejudice. The circular chain represents EPMD’s
responsibility to maintain the chain of custody for evidence and property booked in the
division. The logo has the American flag in the background. The logo will be applied to
non-uniform shirts, jackets, and cold weather caps. The logo will also be reflected on a
challenge coin.
This will replace any and all logos previously approved for EPMD.

7. APPROVAL OF THE RISK MANAGEMENT ANDPOLICIES DIVISION (RMPD)
CHALLENGE COIN
The following logo has been approved for Risk Management and Policies Division to use on
a challenge coin.

The logo is in accordance to the Uniform and Equipment Manual.
