It has come to the Department’s attention that Colt has changed the production configuration of their patrol rifles. Based on technology advancements in the firearm industry with the addition of adaptable rail attachments, Colt was forced to change their patrol rifle configuration to keep up to date with current market demands. Colt has introduced the Enhanced Patrol Rifle (EPR) to answer the market demands. The Colt EPR is factory equipped with the Centurion Arms rail instead of the traditional plastic handguards.
The Centurion Arms rail was tested by the Department and is currently an approved rail system for the Smith and Wesson patrol rifles. The general specifications of the Colt EPR remain the same as the versions previously tested by the Department. Therefore, the Colt EPR versions are now approved and will be added to the authorized patrol rifle list.
