Los Angeles: Early this morning, the Los Angeles Police Department, along with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), California State Parole, Los Angeles County Probation Department, Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) conducted over 50 probation and parole searches in the Los Angeles, North Hills and Palmdale areas.
A total of 23 gang members were arrested, 13 for felony charges, 10 were arrested for misdemeanor charges and two of the arrested were parolees at large. There were three guns seized along with a sawed-off shotgun.
Two gangs were identified and are involved in the sale and distribution of narcotics, which may be the motive for the recent violence in the area. In a period of 16 days there have been two homicides and seven additional persons shot. One homicide occurred on October 2nd, 2005, at 8700 block of Burnet and the other occurred on October 9th, 2005, at Memory Park and Acre Street.
