LAPD Hosting Spanish Community Police Academy

 
Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Operations-South Bureau (OSB) is hosting Spanish Community Police Academy in two geographical areas. One academy class will be in the Southwest Area and the other in Harbor Area. Each Spanish Community Police Academy consists of an 11-week course, one day per week.
The first academy class begins on Tuesday, April 5, 2005. It will be held at the Crenshaw Christian Center located at 7901 South Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles. Classes are every Tuesday night from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
The second academy class begins on Thursday, April 7, 2005. It will be held at the LAPD Harbor Range located at 2981 North Gaffey Street, San Pedro. Classes are every Thursday night from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
The academy course is designed to develop a partnership between the LAPD and the community in providing an inside look at various facets of law enforcement. Among the topics covered are Domestic Violence, Juvenile Services, Laws of Arrest, Crime Scene Investigations and Patrol Operations. Firearms and Training Simulator (FATS) is a part of the course, which replicates actual field conditions and puts each student "in the shoes" of a field officer.
Chief of Police William J. Bratton will present Certificates of Completion to participants during a graduation ceremony at the end of the 11 th week.
Each community member must meet the following criteria:

Must be 18 years or older
No prior felony convictions
No outstanding warrants
No pending criminal cases
