Los Angeles: On Sunday, May 8th around 3:55 in the morning, a Subaru WRX was traveling north on Vineland Avenue approaching Magnolia Boulevard in North Hollywood. According to witnesses who were stopped at the red light, the Subaru was moving at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for the red light at the intersection. The Subaru collided broadside with a BMW X5 causing the BMW to spin counterclockwise out of control. Amanda Wallace, a 24-year-old resident of Studio City was driving the BMW and in the back seat were Bridgett Ortega, a 34-year-old resident of San Fernando, and a dog. Ms. Ortega and the dog were ejected from the rear seat and the dog died at the scene. Bridgett Ortega was transported to a local hospital where she died as a result of her injuries. The driver of the Subaru abandoned his car and ran away from the crash without identifying himself or rendering aid to the injured.
Valley Traffic Division Detectives conducted a follow-up to the Subaru’s registered owner’s address in North Hollywood. The registered owner told detectives that his 22-year-old son Jovan Oliva was the owner and driver of the Subaru. After searching the home, officers found Jovan Oliva in a garage apartment and arrested him for felony hit and run.
