"Granddaughter Arrested for Double Homicide, Children OK"
Los Angeles: Acting on a tip received from the Gardena Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department detectives located Kenya Mabson in a hotel room in the 16000 block of Western Avenue, Gardena. Her three children were with her.
Mabson was wanted as a person of interest related to the deaths of her grandmother, Pauline Axel and Axel’s caretaker, Ellis Dunbar, whose bodies were found in Axel’s apartment yesterday, June 16, 2005, around 1:50 PM, in Lower Baldwin Hills.
Detectives found evidence in the Gardena hotel room that linked Mabson to the murders. She was booked on charges of murder. Her three children were unharmed and handed over to social workers with the Department of Children and Family Services.
"We are grateful to the media and the public for their assistance in locating Ms. Mabson," said Lieutenant Gregg Strenk, commanding officer of LAPD’s Southwest Detective Division. "It was especially important to locate them quickly for the children’s sake."
Detectives did not disclose the nature of the evidence found that linked Mabson to the murders.
