Los Angeles: On February 29, 2004, at about 8:25 p.m., a 1999 Nissan Sentra collided with a 1995 Jeep Eagle Talon in the intersection of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Mercer Street. The Nissan was observed by California Highway Patrol officers just prior to the collision. The driver of the Nissan ran away after the collision. It was learned later that a 27 year-old passenger of the Jeep Eagle died as a result of injuries sustained in the traffic collision. The driver of the Jeep Eagle, a 19 year-old male, received a fractured leg as well as lacerations to his head and face.
Detectives assigned to the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division are handling the criminal investigation related to the fatal hit-and-run collision. The suspect has been identified, but the public’s assistance is not being requested at this time with regard to apprehension of the suspect. However, the Los Angeles Police Department encourages the suspect to turn himself in to any local police station.
