On September 8, 2021, at around 10:15 a.m., an on-duty Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) police officer had just completed qualifying at the LAWA range. The officer was cleaning his pistol when it discharged, striking him in the hand.
The officer was transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated and released. No one else was injured during the incident.
In accordance to our Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), Force Investigation Division (FID) responded to investigate the incident.
