Los Angeles: On Sunday, September 7, 2003, at about 12:30 a.m, a fatal hit and run, vehicle vs. vehicle traffic collision occurred on Garthwaite Avenue and Stocker Plaza in Southwest Area.
The collision occurred when the driver of a 1989 Toyota Camry, 4 door, Burgundy traveling northbound Garthwaite Avenue failed to stop for a clearly posted stop sign and collided with a 1988 Mazda 929, 4 door, bronze traveling eastbound Stocker Plaza. After the collision the driver of the Toyota Camry fled the scene on foot, failing to identify himself and render medical aid.
It was later discovered that the Toyota Camry had been reported stolen in the City of Hawthorne on September 6, 2003. According to witnesses, they observed the driver of the Toyota Camry driving recklessly and throwing gang signs earlier in the evening.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the passenger of the Mazda to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.
The victim is a 52 year-old female Black. Her name is being withheld pending notification to her family.
